AIDAnova the first fully LNG powered cruise ship

AIDA Cruises has taken delivery of its newest ship AIDAnova. The innovative ship is the first of a new generation of AIDA ships and the world’s first cruise ship to operate on low-emission liquefied natural gas (LNG) both at sea and at sea.

Hailed as the world’s most environmentally friendly cruise ship AIDAnova features a wide variety of completely new culinary and entertainment offerings for the German cruise line.

NEW DINING OPTIONS

While AIDA Cruises is known for her self-service restaurants, onboard AIDAnova the number of restaurants and bars has been expanded, to 17 restaurants and 23 bars, and now includes a specialty restaurant for fish and seafood, Ocean’s, and a new Churrascaria Steakhouse offering grilled meats from the spit.

The sushi and teppanyaki dishes have been expanded and new hot pots and a tandoori area added for the perfect Asian dining experience. Also new is the Yachtclub Restaurant, which offers light seasonal cuisine and international specialties in a maritime flair, and the Street Food Mile, where guests can enjoy snacks such as currywurst, doner kebab or sandwiches from early morning until midnight.

At the new Time Machine Restaurant, guests enter a world of wonders and surprises. A fantastic dinner-time journey blurs reality and fantasy. Everything turns and moves, waiters become wizards and serve a delicious multi-course meal.

NEW ENTERTAINMENT OPTIONS

The new Studio X stands for innovative entertainment with exciting formats from all genres of television entertainment. The modern recording center aboard AIDAnova is the first at-sea TV studio that produces and broadcasts live every day. The multifunctional room is one of the highlights on AIDAnova. The guests are live on the show and experience well-known TV formats and TV shows specially developed for AIDAnova.

The popular Theatrium features the first 360-degree stage with more than ten LED walls and a “magic tunnel” for spectacular artist performances.

The activity area Four Elements with climbing garden and water slides as well as the relaxing Beach Club are also to be found on board of AIDAnova. Also on board: a 3,500-square-meter spa and an outdoor gym.

NEWLY DESIGNED STATEROOMS

One of the many highlights of AIDAnova are the 21 different cabin variants. From the penthouse suite to two decks, spacious family and porch cabins, to comfortable single cabins, every guest has the opportunity to feel at home at sea.

The entire interior of AIDAnova impresses with its innovative design. The modern architecture makes the rooms look light and open. The nuanced color compositions give AIDAnova elegance while refined structures provide surprising effects.

NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR NEW SHIPS

AIDAnova is equipped with the most modern technology for environmentally friendly traveling. More than ten years ago, AIDA Cruises began investing in liquefied natural gas (LNG) as its propulsion technology. Thanks to these new technologies the emissions of particulate matter and sulfur oxides are almost completely avoided while the emission of nitrogen oxides and CO2 decreases sustainably.

In 2021 and 2023 two more ships of this new generation of cruise ships will join AIDA’s fleet. In less than five years, more than half of all AIDA guests will travel aboard ships that can be operated either entirely or partially with low-emission LNG.

During her inaugural season AIDAnova will be traveling to the islands of the Canaries and Madeira on seven-day cruises. The itinerary includes the varied volcanic landscapes of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, as well as the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira. Starting in the summer of 2019, AIDAnova will set course for Mediterranean destinations such as Mallorca, Barcelona, Rome, Florence and Marseille.
