Royal Caribbean brings Hairspray to Symphony of the Seas

With months to go before Symphony of the Seas makes her debut, Royal Caribbean has lifted some of the veil surrounding the entertainment offerings.

In a message on Twitter the company has revealed it is bringing Hairspray – the musical back to the stage on its new Oasis Class ship.

Hairspray is set in Baltimore in 1962 where Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair, only has one passion – to dance. After winning a spot on the local TV dance program “The Corny Collins Show”, she is transformed from outsider to irrepressible teen celebrity. As a trendsetter in dance and fashion she goes up against the program’s reigning princess, wins the heart of heartthrob Link Larkin and plays a major role in the integration of the television show. Welcome to the 60’s!

The show was part of the original entertainment line-up onboard Oasis of the Seas, when the ship made its debut in December 2009, and was replaced by Cats – the musical in the fall of 2014.

After her launch in April 2018 Symphony of the seas will spend her inaugural season sailing the Mediterranean visiting amongst others Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Rome and Naples.

Symphony of the Seas will claim the title of the world’s largest and most adventure-filled cruise ship. Symphony will introduce some new features and amenities as well as some of the groundbreaking innovations and thrilling experiences that have garnered worldwide recognition for her three sister ships – Oasis, Allure and Harmony of the Seas. Among them are the seven-neighborhood concept, imaginative and sophisticated dining, robot bartenders in the Bionic Bar, Broadway-style entertainment, an AquaTheater, the Perfect Storm trio of waterslides and Ultimate Abyss – the tallest slide at sea.
