Hotel Indigo Barcelona, a colorful hotel inspired by the architecture of Gaudí

Located on the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, a stone’s throw from Plaza Catalunya and the world famous La Rambla, Hotel Indigo Barcelona offers 77 rooms decorated and furnished in a style reminiscent of Casa Batlló and the Catalan Modernism.

We arrived a few hours before the hotel’s normal check-in time with the idea of just leaving our bags and going for breakfast somewhere. Luckily the hotel had rooms available and we were able to check in.

Having been IHG-Loyalty Club members for years, we asked if the hotel had any complimentary upgrades available. Unfortunately they didn’t, but we could upgrade for an additional 10 euro. As a gesture the hotel did offer us the early check-in free of charge.

Upgrading our room meant 10 Euros well spent

Room 601 was colourful and uniquely designed with green accent pillows and a large mural of Casa Batlló. The room came complete with air-conditioning, a large flat-screen satellite TV, free WiFi, a CD-player and an alarm clock (with an old iPhone connection). Other amenities included a minibar, coffee maker, complimentary plush bathrobes, slippers and extra-large beach towels.

Inside the compact bathroom the rather dark (rain)shower could be improved by installing a glass door instead of the cheap looking shower curtain. And while the hotel offers guests luxury Rituals bath products the fake orchids may have a decorative function in pictures, in reality they don’t add any extra value to the bathroom, they just take up valuable counter space.

Located at the back of the hotel our room had its own private sun terrace overlooking the hotel’s courtyard and pool area. We absolutely loved the large terrace with sunbed, the perfect spot for a little afternoon siesta, after all  when in Spain…

The hotel offers guests an outdoor swimming pool with a poolside terrace, a solarium, gym and fitness room.

The on site restaurant offers Spanish dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, while the bar is the ideal place to hang out before exploring Barcelona by night.

We’ve stayed in other Hotel Indigo properties around the world and have to admit we love them. Unlike other chain hotels they draw inspiration from their surrounding area, making them unique and an integrated part of the local community.

Hotel Indigo Barcelona is ideally located. Plaça Catalunya, from where you can take the Aerobús or train to Barcelona’s El Prat airport is about a 6-minutes walk. Alternatively the Passeig de Gracia train station offering a connection to the airport is about 7 minutes away. Gaudi’s famous Casa Batlló is a short 8-minutes walk from the hotel and Casa MilàLa Pedrera‘ a further 7 minutes. The Basílica de la Sagrada Familia can be reached within 30 minutes walking distance.
