Viking has signed contracts with Fincantieri for the construction of two new ocean cruise ships, following the exercise of options announced in April 2025.
The new ships will be built at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, Italy, and will be based on the proven design and features of vessels previously delivered to Viking. Both ships are scheduled for delivery in 2032.
With approximately 54,300 gross tons, each vessel will accommodate 998 guests across 499 cabins, placing them firmly within Viking’s small-ship ocean cruising concept. The ships will incorporate the latest environmental and navigation standards, together with advanced safety and technological systems.
The agreement, which remains subject to financing and other customary terms and conditions, is classified by Fincantieri as a “large” contract.
The latest order builds on Viking’s continued investment in its fleet. Earlier this year, the company also announced contracts with Fincantieri for two new expedition ships, highlighting Viking’s long-term growth strategy and its commitment to expanding its fleet across both ocean and expedition cruising.
The new ocean ships will further strengthen Viking’s relationship with Fincantieri, which has become one of the company’s most important shipbuilding partners. With this latest agreement, the partnership now covers a total of 28 ships.
Pierroberto Folgiero, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Fincantieri, highlighted the importance of the agreement for the company’s Ancona shipyard, describing the partnership with Viking as a longstanding success story and emphasizing the yard’s expertise in building sophisticated cruise vessels.
For Viking, the two new ships represent another significant step in the company’s long-term fleet expansion. The vessels will continue the distinctive small-ship approach that has become central to the Viking ocean experience, combining an intimate scale with modern technology, high levels of comfort and a strong focus on efficient and sustainable operations.
The 2032 deliveries will add further capacity to Viking’s growing ocean fleet while reinforcing the company’s long-standing commitment to Italy and its shipbuilding industry.
