Century Star Prepares for Its European River Cruise Debut

The European river cruise market is welcoming an exciting new arrival. Century Star, the first river cruise ship from Century Cruises designed specifically for European guests, has officially been delivered by Concordia Damen. The ship marks the beginning of a new generation of river cruise vessels and is the first of three sister ships that the Chinese cruise line will introduce in Europe.

From September 2026, Century Star will take guests on journeys of discovery along the Danube. Later, itineraries on the Rhine will also be added. With this launch, Century Cruises is taking an important step in its international expansion, focusing on travellers looking for a combination of comfort, culture and unforgettable river destinations.

Eastern Hospitality Meets European Elegance

With accommodation for 174 guests, Century Star offers an intimate and comfortable river cruise experience. The ship features 78 cabins and suites, designed with attention to space, atmosphere and contemporary comfort.

The interior of Century Star tells a story where two worlds come together. European river landscapes inspired the design, while subtle Asian details reflect the origins of Century Cruises. The result is a stylish environment where the warm hospitality of the East meets the quality expectations of European river cruise travellers.

To prepare the ship for the European market, Century Cruises worked closely with United Waterways. This cooperation focused on areas including European regulations, safety standards, crew operations and the overall onboard service experience.

Sustainable Cruising on Europe’s Rivers

Alongside comfort, sustainability plays an important role in the design of Century Star. The ship is equipped with hybrid propulsion and features a hull constructed from recycled steel. This reflects the growing demand for more sustainable solutions within the river cruise industry.

The design is based on Concordia Damen’s CDS River Cruise 135 concept, a platform that has already resulted in several river cruise ships. According to the shipbuilder, the project demonstrates how Dutch expertise and innovation can contribute to the future of international river cruising.

New Player With Ambitious Plans

The successful shipyard sea trial of Century Star took place on 5 June 2026. During this test voyage, the ship’s key systems and performance were thoroughly evaluated. Following the final finishing work, the vessel is ready to welcome her first guests.

With Century Star, Century Cruises is laying the foundation for a long-term presence in the European river cruise market. The second ship in the series of three is expected to arrive at Concordia Damen in August 2026.

For river cruise enthusiasts, the arrival of Century Star offers a new choice: a modern ship that combines sustainable innovation with international hospitality and the timeless charm of Europe’s most beautiful rivers.
