Hapag-Lloyd Cruises‘ HANSEATIC spirit of has successfully completed its first major scheduled shipyard period. During the refit in Bremerhaven, the newest ship in the HANSEATIC class underwent an extensive refresh. Particular attention was given to the public areas, which were renovated in line with the “inspired by nature” design concept, giving the expedition ship – commissioned in 2021 – a fresh and contemporary appearance.
For ten days, HANSEATIC spirit remained at the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven. Shipyard staff and part of the crew carried out extensive renovation work, focusing primarily on the hotel and public areas during this first docking period for the newest sister ship in the HANSEATIC class.
In addition to aesthetic upgrades in the wellness area, numerous carpets and floor tiles were replaced. The ship also underwent its mandatory five-year technical inspection as part of the scheduled maintenance programme. Previously, HANSEATIC nature (2023), HANSEATIC inspiration (2024) and EUROPA (2024) also benefited from the expertise of the Lloyd shipyard team.

Last Friday, HANSEATIC spirit left the floating dock in Bremerhaven with a fresh coat of paint and a renewed appearance. On the same day, the ship welcomed guests again at Columbuskaje for its first cruise following the docking period. That evening, the expedition ship departed on an eight-day voyage calling at Rotterdam, Scheveningen, Zeebrugge, Texel, Sylt, Helgoland and Hamburg, where arrival was scheduled for 13 June 2026.
A Fresh New Look for HANSEATIC spirit
During the ten days in the shipyard, almost no area remained untouched. From the spa to the HANSEATIC Restaurant, several parts of the ship received a complete refresh.
In the wellness area, a new stove was installed in the Finnish sauna. The artistic mosaic walls in the spa showers and steam bath were also renovated, creating an inviting atmosphere where guests can fully unwind after intensive expeditions.
The HANSEATIC Restaurant was refreshed with repainting and new flooring. In addition, the French speciality restaurant l’esprit, the Observation Lounge and reception area were fitted with new carpets and a fresh, harmonious colour palette in keeping with the ship’s overall design concept. Several showers in the cabins and suites were also renewed.
Expeditions in Renewed Elegance
This coming Saturday, HANSEATIC spirit will depart on the ten-day “Wild Scotland” expedition before beginning its Arctic season. Throughout the summer, unique expeditions to Northwest Greenland and the Canadian Arctic will take guests into spectacular icy landscapes and untouched natural surroundings.
Later in the season, the small expedition ship will continue sailing through Western Europe before heading towards South Africa.
Exceptional expeditions are also planned for the coming seasons.
The expedition “Madagascar and South Africa – Two Remarkable Wildernesses” runs from 3 to 21 December 2026 (18 days), taking guests from Port Louis (Mauritius) to Cape Town (South Africa). This voyage is bookable in the SILVER fare from €10,460 per person based on double occupancy, including the travel package to and from the departure and arrival points.
Also on the programme is the expedition “Northwest Passage: Arctic Epic – The Ultimate Expression of Pioneering Spirit”. This 29-day journey runs from 10 August to 8 September 2027 and sails from Seward (Alaska) to Kangerlussuaq (Greenland). It is bookable in the PLATINUM fare from €30,260 per person (including early booking discount valid until 31 October 2026), based on double occupancy and including the travel package and charter flight from Kangerlussuaq.
