More and more travellers are seeking experiences that go beyond the classic cruise. Small-scale travel, immersive nature experiences, and meaningful journeys are becoming increasingly important. The expedition cruises to Norway offered by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises perfectly reflect this growing trend.
These winter voyages focus on the Northern Lights, combined with spectacular fjords, tranquil landscapes, and an active programme ashore. Thanks to the expedition concept, you travel in a more immersive and personal way, with access to smaller ports and narrow fjords along the Norwegian coastline.
What Can You Expect?

The itineraries depart from Hamburg and follow the famous Norwegian Inside Passage. During the day, the focus is on nature experiences and winter activities, including hiking, dog sledding, and other optional winter excursions. In the evenings, conditions are ideal for observing the Northern Lights. Far away from artificial light pollution, you can admire this breathtaking natural phenomenon from the deck while cruising beneath the Arctic skies and Norwegian fjords.
Life on board also plays a key role in the experience. The ships of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises combine expedition travel, comfort, and fine gastronomy with regional influences. Thanks to the intimate atmosphere, with space for a maximum of 230 guests, travellers enjoy a highly personal experience that perfectly suits those looking for quality and authenticity.

Our Selection
During the Northern Lights Adventure Norway voyages, you will experience Norway in a truly unique way. HANSEATIC nature departs from Hamburg and follows Norway’s impressive coastline past fjords, islands, and picturesque fishing villages towards the far north.
The journey takes you to some of Norway’s most beautiful destinations. Bergen enchants visitors with its historic Bryggen district and panoramic city views, while Ålesund is renowned for its remarkable Art Nouveau architecture. Torghatten, the legendary mountain with a natural hole through its centre, is another unforgettable highlight.
Further north, you reach Tromsø, known as the “Gateway to the Arctic”, where winter activities such as dog sledding and encounters with Sami culture provide an authentic polar experience. Via Honningsvåg, you continue towards the iconic North Cape, one of the best places to admire the Northern Lights.
Alta is also included in the itinerary and is considered one of the ideal locations for viewing the aurora borealis. Here, guests can participate in winter excursions such as husky sledding and snow activities surrounded by snowy landscapes and clear Arctic nights.

In addition, you will discover Norway’s spectacular fjord scenery up close, featuring towering cliffs, glaciers, and deep fjords. Along the way, there is a strong chance of spotting orcas and other whales in the Norwegian Sea. The itinerary also includes the Lofoten Islands, the Svartisen Glacier, Trondheim, the Geirangerfjord, and Stavanger.
During the day, nature experiences and winter activities take centre stage, while in the evenings the Northern Lights create unforgettable moments from the open decks on board. Stylish cabins and suites provide additional comfort throughout this winter expedition.
The departures in March 2027 largely follow the same spectacular route along the Norwegian fjords, the North Cape, and the Lofoten Islands. Thanks to the extended stay in Alta, guests enjoy even more opportunities for winter activities such as snowmobile excursions, ice fishing, and even overnight stays in an igloo hotel or on a husky farm.
