Discover the Heart of French Polynesia’s Islands and Traditions with Windstar Cruises

French Polynesia remains one of the world’s most coveted destinations, a region where the line between myth and reality blurs. Windstar Cruises‘ 2028 season offers an expansive look at this Pacific paradise, featuring a diverse slate of voyages through Tahiti, the Tuamotus, the Marquesas, the Cook Islands, and Fiji. For nearly four decades, these waters have been explored by the company’s small yachts, allowing travelers to connect deeply with the islands, cultures, and traditions that define the region.

Speaking about Windstar Cruises’ 2028 French Polynesia season Janet Bava, chief commercial officer at Windstar Cruises said: “French Polynesia is one of those destinations that feels almost mythical until you experience it for yourself. Our yachts allow guests to explore these islands the way they were meant to be discovered – by sea – with the freedom to easily travel between the islands while connecting with the culture, traditions and natural beauty that make this region so special. ”

Exploring by Motor and Sailing Yacht

The islands of the South Pacific are best discovered by sea, where the freedom to travel between remote lagoons is paramount. In 2028, two distinct yacht experiences will be available year-round. The all-suite motor yacht Star Breeze, accommodating 312 guests, is often dedicated to longer, more immersive journeys. Meanwhile, the classic sailing yacht Wind Star, which hosts just 148 travelers, offers a signature experience under the iconic white sails that have become a staple of Tahitian harbors.

Because these vessels are small, they can anchor in secluded lagoons and dock at smaller islands that larger ships simply cannot reach. This proximity allows for a more authentic connection to the natural beauty and tranquility of the islands.

Authentic Cultural Immersion

A hallmark of these voyages is the deep cultural connection provided on board. Tahitian cultural ambassadors sail alongside guests, sharing stories passed down through generations and offering hands-on experiences like ukulele lessons, pareo tying, and Tahitian language classes.

On select itineraries, guests may learn from Tihoti a renowned tattoo master and historian – about the ancient meanings behind Polynesian tattoo traditions. The spirit of the islands is further brought to life by local musicians and dancers, such as the Mamas and the Papas, a family dance group that shares the rhythm and storytelling of the South Pacific. A highlight of the season is the Fire & Story event in Bora Bora, where guests enjoy traditional cuisine and mesmerizing fire-dance performances on a private motu under the stars.
