In a dazzling show filled with music, magic, and stardust, Disney Cruise Line has officially christened its newest addition: the Disney Adventure. During an emotional ceremony in Singapore, Marvel icon Robert Downey Jr. served as the ship’s proud godparent.
The christening ceremony in the onboard Walt Disney Theatre was the highlight of the introduction of the very first Disney ship to be homeported in Southeast Asia. The evening was a tribute to over a hundred years of Disney storytelling, enhanced by a 23-piece orchestra and international top artists. Accompanied by spectacular visual effects, guests were swept through the musical highlights of Disney, Pixar, and Marvel.
A Legendary Godparent
The maritime tradition of having a ship blessed by a godparent received a superhero touch with the presence of Robert Downey Jr. The actor spoke highly of the designers’ work: “I’ve had the privilege of getting to know the team at Walt Disney Imagineering, and I can tell you Adventure is the perfect name for what they’ve created. It’s an honor to be the godparent of this majestic vessel. I have some serious duties to perform, so let’s make it official, shall we?”
Downey Jr. signaled the orchestra with the words: “You bring the theme and I’ll bring the thunder,” followed by the official blessing: “I christen thee, Disney Adventure, may God bless this ship and all who sail upon her.”
The ceremony culminated in a shower of confetti and an enthusiastic performance of the traditional Disney Cruise Line song “Let’s Set Sail,” surrounded by Captain Mickey, Captain Minnie, and a crowd of beloved Disney characters.
Ambassador of Wonder
Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences and future CEO of The Walt Disney Company, emphasized the importance of this moment: “The Walt Disney Company has always been built on the power of storytelling and innovation – and Disney Cruise Line brings those values to life in extraordinary ways. Our cruise ships are ambassadors of our brand that carry joy, wonder, and enchantment to destinations around the world.” D’Amaro continued: “As our first ship to homeport in Asia, the Disney Adventure represents a new chapter for Disney Cruise Line. It will introduce Disney to audiences who may be experiencing our magic for the very first time. It offers fans across this region an opportunity to immerse themselves in unforgettable ways and create memories that are uniquely Disney.”
Innovation at Sea
The Disney Adventure is the eighth and largest ship in the fleet. The christening marks the launch of a series of innovative onboard experiences, divided across seven themed zones:
- Marvel Landing: Featuring the Ironcycle Test Run, the first roller coaster on a Disney ship and the longest of its kind at sea.
- Disney Imagination Garden: An open-air theater for the spectacular show “Avengers Assemble!”.
- Broadway-Quality: The brand-new musical “Remember” and immersive dining experiences.
Following the festive ceremony in Singapore, the Disney Adventure is preparing for its maiden voyage on March 10, 2026. The ship will operate three- and four-day cruises from Singapore, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the worlds of Disney, Pixar, and Marvel.
