Luxury is rarely about being the largest; it is about the precision of the experience. While the rest of the cruise industry seems locked in a race to build the most expansive floating cities, Crystal is doubling down on intimacy, craftsmanship, and the art of the travel experience. After a pivotal year proving that the “Crystal Way” still sets the gold standard with the successful relaunch of Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony, the brand is officially entering its next chapter. Through a landmark partnership with the Italian masters at Fincantieri, Crystal has firmed an order for three new ocean ships, a move that will grow the fleet to five premier vessels by 2032.

The first of these newbuilds, Crystal Grace, is scheduled to arrive in the Spring of 2028. It marks the brand’s first new construction in a quarter-century, and it is being designed with a very specific, uncompromising philosophy: it is not merely a ship, but a sophisticated residence that happens to travel the world’s most breathtaking coastlines.
Designed to be Noticed, Not Just Occupied

Crystal understands that true luxury is tactile. They have commissioned the Genoese architects at Studio Gem – led by Giacomo and Lorenzo Mortola – to create interiors that feel personal and residential. Giacomo Mortola’s meticulous eye, paired with Lorenzo’s fresh, modern perspective, ensures that every space avoids the “cookie-cutter” feel of traditional cruise design.
The expansion to five ships by 2032 isn’t just about growth; it’s about perfecting the art of the journey, one precise detail at a time.
We are talking about a selection of the finest materials: Italian Lasa marble, hand-selected silks, and rare woods that make the public spaces feel more like a private villa in Portofino than a commercial vessel. This commitment to design was recently showcased in the extensive $150 million refurbishment of Crystal Symphony. The heart of that ship, the Atrium, was transformed by Studio Ibsen into a fluid, light-filled architectural marvel. By removing dated features and installing a breathtaking two-story mosaic by De Castelli, Crystal proved that they prioritize air, light, and intimacy above all else.

Crucially, the new fleet will retain the fan-favorite full wraparound promenade deck. In an era where shipyard accountants typically trade deck space for extra cabins to maximize revenue, Crystal is keeping the deck. It is a strategic nod to the purists who believe that the soul of a cruise is found in the connection to the sea – a place for a morning walk or a sunset stroll with an uninterrupted view of the horizon.
A Masterclass in Accommodations: The Evolution of the Suite
Every room on the new fleet will be an all-suite, all-veranda sanctuary. Crystal is also making a conscious effort to cater to the modern solo traveler, introducing dedicated single-occupancy suites that offer the same high-end finishes and butler service as the larger configurations. It is a move that reflects the evolving habits of the luxury traveler, ensuring that independence does not come at the cost of elegance.

Crystal: the future of travel isn’t about how many people you can fit on a ship – it’s about how perfectly you can treat the 690 who are already there.
But the real talk of the industry is the Owner’s Suite. At 1,950 square feet of interior space, it is a massive statement of intent. This isn’t just a larger room; it is a residential masterpiece featuring a private library, a working fireplace for cooler latitudes, and a 1,965-square-foot veranda equipped with its own whirlpool and alfresco dining area. With a private butler’s pantry, turquoise quartzite accents (a tribute to the brand’s signature hue), and bespoke linens by Jesurum 1870, it is designed for the guest who demands the privacy of a sprawling home paired with the intuitive service of a world-class hotel.
The Return of High Stakes and Haute Cuisine
The onboard lifestyle is being elevated through a series of high-level global alliances. Crystal has secured a major win by partnering with Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer (SBM) to bring the Casino de Monte-Carlo to the fleet. It is the only one of its kind at sea, bringing a very specific brand of Monégasque glamour back to the guests who have long requested its return. The casino will be a centerpiece of the new ships, offering an environment of high-stakes elegance that mirrors the atmosphere of the Place du Casino itself.

The culinary lineup remains just as formidable, anchored by a “who’s who” of the gastronomic world. Guests can still enjoy the legendary Japanese-Peruvian fusion at Umi Uma, which remains the only Nobu restaurant at sea. This is joined by the iconic Beefbar by Riccardo Giraudi and the Michelin-starred expertise of the Alajmo brothers at Osteria d’Ovidio.
To balance these culinary indulgences, Crystal is leaning heavily into “High-Science” wellness. These are not your standard spa retreats; they are specialized programs curated by experts like Dr. Christine Houghton and nutritionist Dalila Roglieri. The focus shifts from basic relaxation to functional nutrition, mental longevity, and digital detoxing. Whether it’s a yoga session on the deck as you sail into Cape Town or a tailored brain-exercise workshop, the goal is a total rejuvenation of both body and mind.
The A&K Edge: A Seamless Global Journey
Perhaps the most powerful tool in Crystal’s arsenal today is its deep integration with Abercrombie & Kent. This is no longer just about a cruise; it is about a seamless, 360-degree journey. Because Crystal is now part of the A&K family, the experience on the ship is perfectly matched by the explorations on land.
Through A&K’s vast global network of Destination Management Companies, Crystal guests gain access to experiences that are simply off-limits to others. Whether it’s a private after-hours tour of a world-renowned museum or a luxury desert camp set up specifically for a small group of guests, the transition from sea to land is fluid. You aren’t just visiting a port; you are tapping into a heritage of exploration that spans decades.
