Holland America Line Unveils New Legendary Voyages for 2027-2028

For the traveler who believes that the journey is just as important as the destination, Holland America Line has pulled back the curtain on its 2027–2028 Legendary Voyages season. This meticulously curated collection of long-duration cruises is designed to transcend the ordinary, offering immersive itineraries that range from 28 to 47 days. These voyages are a tribute to over 150 years of maritime heritage, blending the grace of classic ocean travel with modern, deep-dive exploration across Alaska, Europe, the South Pacific, and – for the first time – the sun-drenched Caribbean.

The season is defined by its “Legendary” status: a unique category of cruising that bridges the gap between standard sailings and Grand World Voyages. By focusing on a single region or a compelling historical narrative, these trips allow guests to truly inhabit the places they visit. Whether it is navigating the verdant corridors of the Amazon or tracing the ancient paths of the Vikings, the 2027–2028 season promises a profound connection between ship and shore.

“Our guests are always looking for adventures that feel personal and unforgettable, whether that’s following the paths of ancient explorers, watching a solar eclipse at sea or spending unhurried time in some of the world’s most storied cities,” said Paul Grigsby, Holland America Line’s vice president of revenue planning and deployment. “These new Legendary Voyages tap deeply into those desires, blending historic routes, rare access and extraordinary port time with the premium onboard experience our long‑time cruisers return for again and again.”

Celestial Wonders and Golden Age Glamour

One of the most anticipated highlights is the 28-Day Solar Eclipse & Cosmic Port Explorer. Departing in July 2027 aboard Nieuw Statendam, this voyage offers the ethereal opportunity to witness a total solar eclipse from the deck of the ship off the coast of Morocco. The journey is a masterclass in “archeoastronomy,” pairing the celestial event with visits to ancient observatories and historic sites across Spain, Portugal, and the UK.

Simultaneously, the cruise line is celebrating the golden age of aviation through a groundbreaking partnership with Pan Am World Airways. The 28-Day Pan Am 100th Anniversary Legendary Voyage retraces the historic “Clipper” routes. Departing Miami in October 2027, the Zuiderdam will visit 18 destinations that follow Pan Am’s pioneering Great Circle Route, complete with period-inspired programming that transports guests back to a time of ultimate glamour and discovery.

Timeless Classics and Remote Frontiers

For those drawn to the cradle of civilization, the 47-Day Ultimate Mediterranean & Atlantic Passage returns. Sailing roundtrip from New York, this epic journey visits 21 ports across 12 countries. It echoes the pleasure cruises of the 1920s, offering overnight stays in Istanbul and Alexandria, allowing for an unhurried exploration of the “Queen of Cities” and the wonders of Egypt.

The season further expands into the wild heart of nature with the 28-Day Legendary Amazon Explorer, now sailing roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale. Other highlights include the Arctic Circle Solstice in Alaska, where the midnight sun reigns supreme, and the island-hopping odyssey of the 35-Day Hawaii, Tahiti & Marquesas voyage.

An Elevated Onboard Sanctuary

A Legendary Voyage is defined not just by where it goes, but by the atmosphere on board. These sailings feature an elevated level of ceremony, from the signature Orange Party and Captain’s Gala Dinners to local cultural performances that bring the soul of the destination onto the stage. With resident classical ensembles, creative writing workshops, and commemorative gifts, every moment at sea is designed to be as enriching as the time spent in port.
