Oceania Cruises has reached a pivotal milestone in its continued evolution of small-ship luxury cruising with the ceremonial steel cutting of Oceania Sonata, the first ship in the brand’s revolutionary new Sonata Class. The event took place today at the renowned Fincantieri-Marghera shipyard in Venice, Italy, marking the official start of construction for what promises to be a new benchmark in ultra-premium cruise experiences.

Set to debut in 2027, Oceania Sonata will redefine the standards of upscale cruising with exceptional design, unmatched space, and elevated service. She will be followed by her sister ship, Oceania Arietta, further expanding the line’s commitment to culinary excellence, destination-rich itineraries, and refined elegance at sea.
With the launch of Oceania Sonata, Oceania Cruises will introduce its ninth vessel to the fleet. True to her name, the ship has been thoughtfully designed as a “symphony at sea,” blending artistry, innovation, and comfort. The Sonata Class will offer more spacious accommodations, new wellness and enrichment spaces, and a fresh take on the brand’s hallmark gourmet dining.

This milestone also celebrates Oceania Cruises’ longstanding collaboration with Fincantieri, one of the world’s leading shipbuilding groups. Fincantieri has previously delivered some of Oceania’s most iconic ships, including Marina, Riviera, Vista, and the soon-to-launch Oceania Allura, scheduled to join the fleet in July 2025.
