Ever thought of living permanantly at sea? This is your chance. A group of marine engineering entrepreneurs is taking advantage of the current downturn in the cruise industry to begin a new cruise ship business focused on residential living in calm seas.
P&O Cruises Australia’s former Pacific Dawn was supposed to enter service with Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV) as Amy Johnson. After CMV ceased operations the ship was sold to Ocean Builders, a company known for building floating homes for seasteaders. On Novenber 4 the ship will be officially transferred to its new owners and renamend MS Satoshi.
The crypto cruise ship will sail from the Mediterranean and anchor in much calmer waters of the Gulf of Panama. Here it will serve as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. It will be a gathering place for digital nomads, cryptocurrency enthusiasts, expats, researchers, and entrepreneurs, offering a unique space in which they can build and network.
As key investor Chad Elwartowski, COO of Ocean Builders, says, “We look forward to creating a hub for technology and innovation on our cruise ship. Our goal is to figure out how to live sustainably on the sea and chart new waters in this new frontier.”
The plan for the ship is to sell the cabin condos as residences and rent out the commercial space to businesses. Bitcoin will be accepted throughout the ship for all goods and services, alongside U.S. dollars and other forms of payment.
Satoshi will feature 777 cabins with a capacity of 2020 people plus crew and crew quarters. Residents and guests will enjoy three restaurants, multiple bars and cafes, two pools, four whirlpools, a water park, a gym and wellness area.
Starting November 5, cabins will be sold in an auction to those interested in owning a permanent residence on the ship. 200 cabins will be available in the first round of the auction. Starting price for interior cabins is $25,000, balcony cabins start at $50,000. Vacation rentals will also be available. The ship will be ready for residents to move in by early 2021.
Residents will pay an ongoing fee for the upkeep of the ship and amenities. Ocean Builders will also assist residents with acquiring permanent residency in Panama if they are interested in living in the country full time.
