It was a smurf morning at Brussels Airport with the arrival of some very important guests. Papa Smurf, Smurfette and Travel Smurf had left their village in the woods and travelled to the airport to reveal a statue dedicated to the world famous blue creatures.

Inspired by “The Aerosmurf” in which the Smurfs fly a red aeroplane, the statue depicts a typical airport scene. Papa Smurf is the marshaller who indicates where and how Aerosmurf should park his plane, while Smurfette and Baby Smurf play airplane.

“I am very pleased to welcome the Smurfs to Brussels Airport,” said Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport. “For decades they have been an internationally famous icon of our country and are, just like the Tintin rocket in Connector,  the perfect representatives of Belgian creativity and our rich comic book culture. We have therefore given the Smurfs a place of honour in the completely renovated area where passengers can enjoy the Belgian culture and cuisine.”

As from today the Smurfs are welcoming passengers from all ages to Brussels Airport’s Gallery of Light, the relaxation and shopping area leading to pier B.
