Following the introduction of Century Star on the Danube, Century Cruises is already turning its attention to its next new river ship for Europe. The cruise line has announced Century Diamond as the second vessel in its new generation of European river cruise ships. Measuring 135 metres, the ship will make its debut in August 2027, with the Rhine as its main operating region and eight-day itineraries between Basel and Amsterdam at the heart of the programme.

Century Diamond will feature 76 staterooms and suites across four decks and accommodate up to 174 guests. Like Century Star, the ship will use hybrid propulsion and will be built with approximately 60 percent recycled steel. With its new generation of vessels, Century Cruises is positioning modern technology alongside a more sustainable approach to river cruising.
From the Yangtze to the Rhine
Century Cruises’ European concept is built around its ‘Rivers Intertwined’ philosophy, connecting the company’s history on China’s Yangtze River with the major waterways of Europe. According to the cruise line, the new ships are specifically designed with North American and European travellers in mind, combining European influences with elements reflecting the brand’s Asian heritage.

On Century Diamond, this concept will also be reflected in the interiors. The main restaurant draws inspiration from Germany’s Black Forest, while the lounge is designed as a traditional Viennese coffee house. Art and decorative details will meanwhile reference Century Cruises’ Asian origins.
“Thomas Rooch and the team at Century One in Basel have brought our vision of ‘Rivers Intertwined’ to life,” says David Fredericks, president and general manager, The Americas, at Century Cruises. He says the European ships will have a distinctly European character while retaining links to the company’s Asian roots.
The same combination will extend to the dining programme. Alongside regional dishes and local wines and beers from the destinations visited, each menu will feature a Chinese dish as a reference to Century Cruises’ Yangtze heritage.
“We’re not trying to recreate what already exists. We’re bringing two worlds together: East and West, the Yangtze and Europe’s great rivers, as Century Cruises continues its global expansion,” Fredericks adds.
Home on the Rhine
Century Diamond will primarily operate eight-day cruises between Basel and Amsterdam. Selected departures will feature more extensive European itineraries, incorporating waterways beyond the traditional Rhine route.
With the launch of Century Star on the Danube, Century Cruises previously took its first concrete step in implementing its new European fleet strategy. The arrival of Century Diamond in 2027 represents the next stage of that expansion, which is ultimately planned to comprise four new ships.
