For travelers following a gluten-free diet, a vacation can require more preparation than simply choosing a destination. Checking ingredients, asking questions about how dishes are prepared and considering the possibility of cross-contact can turn every meal into something that requires attention. Oceania Cruises aims to change that with what the line describes as the cruise industry’s first entirely gluten-free ocean voyage.
The special journey will take place aboard Oceania Vista in 2028, giving guests the opportunity to experience the full breadth of the line’s culinary offering without having to constantly check menus, ask questions about preparation practices or worry about cross-contact.
Departing May 31, 2028, from Southampton, Oceania Vista will embark on a 12-night roundtrip voyage exploring the landscapes and historic cities of England, Ireland and Scotland. The itinerary includes calls in Cork (Cobh), Dublin (Dún Laoghaire), Glasgow (Greenock), Stornoway in the Hebrides and Edinburgh (Newhaven).
A Completely Gluten-Free Dining Experience Onboard

What sets this voyage apart is that the gluten-free experience will not be limited to a selection of dishes or a particular restaurant. Every dining venue aboard Oceania Vista will offer entirely gluten-free menus during the sailing.
Guests can dine at signature specialty restaurants Toscana, Polo Grill, Red Ginger and Jacques, as well as more casual venues such as Aquamar Kitchen and Waves Grill. The choice will also extend beyond regular meals. Travelers on this sailing can enjoy afternoon tea, in-suite dining and freshly baked pastries and other treats from The Bakery, without having to limit their choices or plan each meal around their dietary needs.
For travelers who must follow a gluten-free diet, dining during a vacation can require constant vigilance. Which ingredients have been used? How has the dish been prepared? What precautions have been taken? And is there a risk of cross-contact? By addressing these concerns across the complete onboard culinary program, Oceania Cruises aims to create an environment where guests can focus fully on their vacation.
That means more time to discover remarkable destinations, enjoy exceptional cuisine onboard and share the experience with the people who matter most.
“As a brand with food at its heart, we believe every guest should be able to experience the joy and discovery that define dining with Oceania Cruises,” said Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises. “This voyage gives our culinary team an extraordinary opportunity to reimagine our acclaimed onboard dining experiences through an entirely gluten-free lens while remaining true to the creativity, quality and abundance at the heart of our philosophy to serve The Finest Cuisine at Sea. Most importantly, it will allow guests to relax into their vacation knowing the entire culinary experience has been created with them in mind.”
A Journey Through England, Ireland And Scotland

There will be plenty to discover beyond the ship as well. From Southampton, the roundtrip itinerary heads to Ireland, with calls in Cork (Cobh) and Dublin (Dún Laoghaire), before Oceania Vista continues towards Scotland. Here, guests will visit Glasgow (Greenock), Stornoway in the Hebrides and Edinburgh (Newhaven).
The combination of historic cities, distinctive landscapes and the onboard culinary offering makes the voyage particularly appealing to travelers who do not want their dietary requirements to mean compromising on their vacation. With the complete culinary program offered gluten-free, guests will no longer have to treat every meal as a separate logistical challenge within their journey.
The voyage is being developed in collaboration with Celiac Cruise, an organization specializing in gluten-free travel with extensive experience creating safe and worry-free vacation experiences for people with celiac disease and the broader gluten-free community.
Celiac Cruise is contributing its expertise and insight into the needs of gluten-free travelers during the development of the voyage. The organization will also serve as the official booking partner for the sailing.

“For travelers with celiac disease, food is something that has to be considered at virtually every stage of a journey – where to eat, what to order, how something has been prepared and the potential for cross-contact,” said Maureen Basye, founder of Celiac Cruise. “The opportunity to board a ship knowing the culinary experience has been designed to be entirely gluten-free fundamentally changes what travel can feel like for so many. Instead of planning their vacation around food, guests on this sailing can focus on the destinations they are exploring, the people they are traveling with, and the simple joy of traveling well.”
A Challenge For The Culinary Team
The voyage reflects Oceania Cruises’ broader culinary ethos, centered on thoughtful hospitality, exceptional quality and meaningful choice. At the same time, the project represents an interesting challenge for the cruise line’s culinary team.
The objective is not simply to create a safe gluten-free environment, but also to demonstrate that an entirely gluten-free culinary experience can offer the same variety, creativity and pleasure that guests expect from Oceania Cruises.
The line therefore aims to show that traveling gluten-free does not have to mean lowering culinary expectations. From the specialty restaurants to the more casual dining venues, from afternoon tea to in-suite dining and freshly baked treats from The Bakery, the entire culinary program on this special voyage will focus on an experience in which guests do not have to keep their dietary requirements constantly in mind.
