Viking has announced its 2028–2029 ocean program, featuring more than 700 new departure dates across 80 itineraries visiting 301 ports in 84 countries and six continents. It is the largest ocean deployment in the company’s history. The new departures will be operated by Viking’s fleet of small, award-winning ocean ships, including the new Viking Vega and Viking Leda. The program further expands Viking’s global offering with additional departures of the recently introduced Japan Discovery itinerary, as well as two new itineraries: Alaskan Fjords & the Inside Passage and Mediterranean, Malta & North Africa.

The 2028–2029 program includes itineraries across the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Alaska, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, the Caribbean, South America and the Panama Canal. Guests can choose from voyages starting at eight days through to extended World Voyages, with thoughtfully designed itineraries that can also be combined for longer, more immersive journeys.
New Itineraries to Alaska, the Mediterranean and North Africa
One of the new itineraries is Alaskan Fjords & the Inside Passage, a 15-day journey from Vancouver to Whittier. The itinerary explores Alaska’s Inside Passage and majestic fjords, with opportunities to kayak among pristine coves and hike through remote wilderness while looking out for soaring eagles, roaming bears and breaching whales. Guests can also meet Tlingit hosts who share stories and insights into their deep connection with the land.
Also new is Mediterranean, Malta & North Africa, a 16-day roundtrip voyage from Rome. The itinerary calls at historic Valletta, where guests can discover the enduring legacy of the Knights of St. John, before continuing to North Africa and Andalusia. Here, Moorish-inspired architecture, including the UNESCO-listed Alhambra Palace, reflects centuries of cultural exchange. The journey continues to Provence and Corsica before returning to Rome.
The Japan Discovery itinerary returns with 15-day roundtrip voyages from Tokyo. The journey circumnavigates Japan and crosses the Sea of Japan to the southeastern tip of the Korean Peninsula, with calls at Niigata, Hakata (Fukuoka), Sapporo and Shimizu, where the ship stays overnight. Guests can also experience the refined world of geisha arts during an overnight stay in Tokyo, Japan’s dynamic capital, where tradition and modernity continue to meet.
Viking Vega and Viking Leda
The Viking Vega and Viking Leda, currently scheduled for delivery in 2028 and 2029 respectively, will become the newest ships in Viking’s ocean fleet.
Like all Viking ocean ships, both vessels are classified as small ships. Each will have a gross tonnage of 54,300 tons and feature 499 staterooms accommodating 998 guests. The ships will offer all-veranda staterooms, elegant Scandinavian design, light-filled public spaces and a range of al fresco dining options.
