A cruise vacation can bring many surprises, but few are as heartwarming as the discovery made by 9-year-old Corbin Hindriksen during a Holland America Line Alaska Inside Passage cruise aboard Zaandam.
While spending time in the Lido Pool, the young guest noticed something shining at the bottom of the water. Curious, he dived down and discovered what appeared to be a gold ring. Instead of keeping his unexpected find, Corbin immediately brought it to Guest Services, convinced that another passenger must be missing something important.
The team quickly identified the ring as a wedding band that had been reported lost during the previous sailing. Thanks to Holland America Line’s lost-and-found process, the owner was located and arrangements were made to return the treasured item.
For Gordon Sherritt from British Columbia, Canada, the ring was far more than a piece of jewellery. It was a symbol of his 60-year relationship with his partner Alice. Getting it back was a special moment, made possible by Corbin’s honesty and quick thinking. “It was wonderful when my wedding ring found its way home,” Sherritt said.
Corbin’s actions also caught the attention of the ship’s officers. After meeting Captain Ane Smit during the voyage, the young guest was invited to visit the bridge, where he received a captain’s coin recognizing his exceptional kindness and a model of Zaandam as a keepsake.
The story is a reminder that some of the most memorable moments on a cruise are not always found in the destinations visited, but in the people you meet along the way.
