Star Clippers has appointed Leo Chang as its new Chief Executive Officer. The experienced travel executive will lead the next phase of growth for the specialist sailing cruise line, with a focus on expanding its global presence while preserving the company’s unique tall ship heritage.
Chang succeeds current CEO and owner Eric Krafft, whose family has led Star Clippers since the company was founded in 1989 by passionate yachtsman Mikael Krafft.
Focus on Growth and Guest Experience
With more than 30 years of leadership experience, Chang will oversee the company’s global operations, growth strategy, brand development and commercial expansion. He joins Star Clippers at a time when demand for boutique cruises, authentic sailing experiences and sustainable travel continues to grow.
Before joining Star Clippers, Chang served as Chief Business Development Officer at Lindblad Expeditions, where he was responsible for corporate development and strategic planning. He previously held executive positions at Frontida BioPharm and investment firm Jefferies.
Preserving the Spirit of Traditional Sailing

Star Clippers operates a fleet of three of the world’s largest authentic sailing ships: Star Flyer, Star Clipper and flagship Royal Clipper. The cruise line combines the romance of traditional tall ship sailing with the comfort and amenities of a modern luxury yacht.
Eric Krafft welcomed the appointment, saying Chang is the right person to guide the company into its next chapter. “Leo has incredible passion for our unique and authentic style of travel. His deep understanding of small ship cruising and the growing opportunities within this market, combined with his forward-thinking leadership, make him the ideal person to continue the Star Clippers legacy.”
Krafft added that both travel advisors and loyal guests can expect the company to remain committed to product excellence, outstanding service and operational innovation.
An Iconic and Beloved Company
Chang described Star Clippers as one of the world’s most distinctive travel companies and said he is honoured to take on the role.

“Star Clippers offers an authentic tall ship experience that allows travellers to connect with the heritage of the sea in a truly unique way. I am incredibly honoured to lead this iconic and beloved company.”
Looking ahead, Chang said the company will focus on further enhancing the guest experience, expanding its global reach and continuing to develop intimate, sustainable voyages that larger cruise ships simply cannot offer.
“As we look to the future, our mission will be to elevate the guest experience, broaden our global reach and continue innovating intimate, sustainable voyages that larger vessels simply cannot replicate, while remaining true to the timeless spirit of wind-powered sailing.”
