Classical Music Meets Meditation returns to MS EUROPA in 2027

Following its acclaimed premiere, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises will reintroduce the Classical Music meets Meditation programme on board MS EUROPA in 2027. The concept returns in response to strong guest interest, continuing to explore the intersection of classical music, mindfulness, and holistic wellbeing at sea.

As EUROPA sails from Santa Cruz to Cape Town, the twelve-day voyage provides the setting for a curated programme that brings together musical performance and guided mindfulness practices. The Swiss CHAARTS ensemble returns for this edition, joined by internationally renowned soprano Marlis Petersen and Italian composer and violinist Francesca Guccione.

A curated dialogue between music and mindfulness

First introduced as an innovative onboard format, Classical Music meets Meditation combines live classical performance with structured mindfulness experiences. The 2027 edition further develops this concept, offering an integrated programme designed to create moments of presence, reflection, and sensory awareness throughout the voyage.

Rather than a sequence of separate events, the experience unfolds as a continuous dialogue between music, body, and environment, shaped by the rhythm of life at sea. Its intention is to extend beyond the journey itself, offering ideas and practices that can be carried into everyday life.

Artistic excellence on board

With a crew-to-guest ratio of almost 1:1, EUROPA is designed for an intimate and highly personalised experience, complemented by attentive service, a varied culinary offering, and thoughtfully curated itineraries. Classical music has long been part of the ship’s identity, forming the foundation for this programme.

The combination of classical music and mindfulness creates an intense, physically palpable soundscape that is exclusively available in this form on board EUROPA, which accommodates no more than 400 guests. The format thrives on the interplay of various artistic and body-oriented disciplines as well as renowned performers.

“What makes Classical Music meets Meditation so special is the direct interplay between a classical ensemble and guided meditation – an experience that is unique at sea in terms of its intensity and setting,” says Lisa Wilken, Head of Luxury Cruises at Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. “The positive feedback has shown us just how much of an impact the format has on our guests. That’s why, following last year’s resounding success, we are bringing Classical Music meets Meditation back to the EUROPA in 2027.”

The Swiss CHAARTS ensemble once again forms the musical foundation of the programme, presenting chamber works in an intimate onboard setting that highlights nuance and emotional depth.

Composer and violinist Francesca Guccione expands the musical spectrum with contemporary compositions that explore the boundary between classical tradition and modern soundscapes, introducing new tonal perspectives.

A special highlight is soprano Marlis Petersen, whose international operatic career has earned her numerous distinctions, including multiple Singer of the Year awards. In addition to selected performances, she leads exclusive sessions exploring breath, voice, and sensory awareness, informed by her work in aromatherapy. These sessions offer more personal encounters and deeper insight into her artistic approach.

Movement, breath and presence at sea

The mindfulness dimension of the programme is guided by three specialists in yoga, meditation, and bodywork. Across daily sessions, they introduce complementary approaches that combine breathwork, movement, and awareness training.

The programme includes both restorative practices and more physically engaging formats designed to activate energy and deepen body perception. This balance of stillness and movement creates a natural rhythm throughout the voyage, while offering practical tools that can be integrated into daily routines beyond the cruise.

Individual sessions can also be booked on board, allowing for a more personalised experience.

An immersive experience shaped by the sea

Over the course of twelve days, musical performances and mindfulness sessions are interwoven into a continuous programme. Rather than existing separately, they inform and reflect one another, creating a cohesive experiential flow.

The rhythm of the ocean becomes an integral part of the experience. Music, breath, and movement unfold in dialogue with the surrounding seascape, shaping an atmosphere in which perception becomes more focused and expansive.
